Snaith Primary School

Week beginning 27th April 2020

Hiya team,

I hope you’re all ok and had a fab week… The weather has been amazing, hasn’t it?

Last week, I completed the 5km running challenge to raise money for Captain Tom Moore’s NHS charity. What a guy! Surely you’ve seen him on the news. I’ve also turned my kitchen table into a table tennis table so I can have the odd game with Mrs Constantine. I’ve used a giant mega blocks tube as the net. Hope you’re keeping busy too!

Our first theme this week is coasts.

Monday - Geography

Flamborough Coastal Erosion –the 4 processes

Have you ever been to Flamborough head on the East Coast? It is stunning! The cliffs there are white because they are made of chalk. But the cliffs are being eroded away by the sea - but how? Have a watch of these two great videos of coastal erosion and find out!

Real life video at Flamborough:

Diagram video:

YOUR TASK: Draw a diagram and label it that shows the 4 processes of coastal erosion.

Take note of the ‘solution’ process as you will use this for tomorrow’s task!

Tuesday – Science

Making a Bouncy Egg!

So now you know about the 4 erosive processes at the seaside, let’s have a look at the solution process.

At Flamborough, the calcium carbonate (chalk) is being dissolved away by the actions of the seawater.

You can do the same with an egg! Try making a BOUNCY EGG!

Watch this video and find out how and what’s going on!

YOUR TASK: Make a pic collage (or similar) of the process and outcome of making your bouncy egg.

Challenge: Can you add some scientific notes to explain what is happening?

Wednesday – English

Short story of no more than 200 words

Have ever been to the beach and found a strange looking stone with a hole in it? This is the type of stone that has inspired much folklore over the ages! Read this article and watch the video within it (Weird Suffolk: Witch Stones) to find out about the incredible folklore surrounding these hag stones – it’s fascinating!

YOUR TASK: To write a short, weird tale that includes a hag stone. Now you need to practice reading it out loud to yourself.  Find somewhere quiet and try to put in some expression.  If you are feeling confident, settle everyone down with a hot drink, dim the lights and read your story for an enchanted evening!

Thursday – Art

Time to get arty! Have a look at this video! The colours are fabulous!

YOUR TASK: To paint or draw or colour or collage a seascape in any art materials you have. Be creative! Follow the video (you may need to stop and start it!) but make this work your own! Have fun! Now display it where everyone can appreciate your talent! Take a pic! Send it in to the snaith.primary2020@gmail.com and hopefully you will see it on the website!

Friday – PE

Have a go at these 6 (random – well some are!) challenges:

1.How long can you hold the plank position for?

If you’re unsure what the plank position looks like, follow this link: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/shortcuts/2017/oct/18/how-to-do-perfect-plank-exercise

2. How long does it take you to do 10 step ups?

Find a step. Step onto the step one foot at a time. Then step off the step one foot at a time. Do this TEN times. Quickly.

3. How long does it take you to pick up 10 coins (one by one) and transfer them into a bowl?

4. With your eyes closed, how long does it take you to put your socks on and take them off again?Think of your tactics first!

5. How long does it take you to do 30 claps?

6. How many bottle flips can you land from 10 attempts?

There are some great ‘bottle flipping’ tutorials on YouTube. I will be watching a few to brush up my skills.

Feel free to have more than one attempt at each challenge. You might need someone to help you count and/or time.

Can you beat me (Mr C)?

I will post my scores on Friday... Bring it on!

If you wish, send me your scores to snaith.primary2020@gmail.com

In addition to this, there are your daily tasks waiting to be completed on Doodle Maths and Doodle English.  Plus your daily extra task, which will be rotated between maths and English each day. Just log in and get busy... I will be rewarding prizes again at the end of the week.

Also, if you wish, log in to ttrockstars and earn lots of coins... Keep sending me rockslams; it’s helping me get quicker! My aim is to get 50 questions correct in a minute. My PB is 45.

Have a fab week everyone. Any problems, ask an adult to email snaith.primary2020@gmail.com and I will get back to you.

Mr C :-)
