Snaith Primary School

Mr Clarkson's Class

Welcome to year 4!

Mr Clarkson’s class mission statement

We are a kind and caring class who aim to greet everybody that enters our classroom with beaming smile. We always try to show good manners at all times, making sure that we listen to everyone carefully and show respectful behaviours.

In our class, we aim to believe in ourselves and always try to keep going and not give up when we find things tricky. We try hard to make the people around us happy and aim to shine in everything we do.

Our classroom routines

Our PE days are on Monday and Wednesday. Therefore, on this day we need to come to school in our PE kits ready for this lesson.  Please could children come to school wearing a suitable outdoor P.E. kit. This includes leggings/jogging bottoms/shorts as well as your school P.E. T-shirt and a normal Snaith Primary School jumper or cardigan. Children may also come to school wearing trainers on this day.

We ask children to bring an alternative pair of shoes/trainers for each day in school as we will be spending more time on the grass at playtimes. We want to avoid the children sitting in class with wet feet! Please bring these in a small drawstring bag which can be kept on the back of each child's chair in class.

Reading

Our reading books need to be in school everyday so that they are available for individual reading with an adult. There will be opportunities to read these books on a daily basis and children may be asked to read to an adult at various times of the week. When a child has finished their reading book, they need to return it to school and sign it back in. We ask that children complete 15 minutes of reading at home each day please.

Reading Plus, our exciting new online reading programme, also compliments the children's independent free-choice reading. It gives a personalised programme for children to work on their reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension skills. We are very excited to use this both in school and for our reading homework each week. Children each have an individual login for Reading Plus.

Spellings

Spellings will be sent home each Friday for the children to access from home, where they can be practised before the test the next Friday. They can also use the online tool 'Spelling Frame' to practise their spellings as well. We will, of course, also be teaching and practising the different spelling rules each week in class, before the spelling test. We are very grateful for all extra support that you give with your child's spelling as a strong partnership between home and school definitely helps to get the best results!

Homework

Every Friday the children will be given a maths sheet to complete, this will be expected to be completed the following Friday. Also, the children will be expected to spend 30 minutes a week or two books each week on Reading Plus. In addition, if the children could spend some time each week practising their Times Tables Rock Stars. There will also be spellings to practise each week. We will notify children of their homework tasks in class (please see the homework section for more information). Mr Clarkson will be checking online to see that the homework has been completed. If anyone needs any extra help with the task, or with accessing the work online, we will provide time in school to make sure that everyone has a chance to complete their online work each week.

Times Tables Rock Stars and Spelling Frame

All children have their own personal logins for Times Tables Rock Stars and Spelling Frame. They are fantastic resources for the children to practise learning essential facts in a fun and exciting way online. Children will access TT Rock Stars and Spelling Frame from school and as part of their homework, using their individual login details. These have been sent home for each child. Please do contact us if you have any questions about either Spelling Frame or TT Rock Stars.
