Newsletter Friday 7th  November 2025

This Weeks Attendance 97.4%

WWII Theme week

This week the children have been working hard, learning about our local area during WWII. We would like to sincerely express our thanks to a number of people who have supported the children with this.

RAF Snaith Museum (Pollington) & volunteers.

Children from Y3 and Y4 visited the museum yesterday and enjoyed seeing the many artefacts and hearing the stories and information shared with them. Many volunteers in WWII costume attended the museum to bring the learning to life. In the morning Y3 were even visited by ‘Sir Winston Churchill’. The museum certainly helped to ensure that the experience and learning was memorable.  Thank you. While the museum shuts this Sunday until the Spring, it is well worth a visit. I would also like to share the feedback from one of the volunteers who said, “It has been quite a day helping to teach the younger generation about life in WWII Britain, but I can’t go any further without mentioning how interested, involved and well behaved the children have been.” Well done everyone.

Mrs Scruton and Mrs Colbeck,

Visited school to talk to Y1 and Y2 about what life was like for children in the local area during WWII. They brought numerous artefacts and toys to share with the children. The children were intrigued to find out that ipads, computers and mobile phones didn’t exist and were ‘horrified’ that there was no McDonalds!

Mr Kisby

A volunteer for RAF Snaith Museum shared lots of information and entertaining stories about RAF Snaith and the people who flew from there with the children in Y5 and 6.  The children especially enjoyed learning about John Pohe, a New Zealand airman who, was shot down, captured and subsequently involved in the great escape. I’m sure they will tell you all about what they have learned.

Mrs Turner (also known as Mrs Hyland’s mum)

Talked to the children in Nursery and Reception about her mum who grew up in this area as a child in WWII. Children learned about toys and hobbies at the time and what life was like. The children were especially intrigued to learn there was no TV and that going to the toilet meant a walk across the yard!

Today we have all enjoyed dressing up in various WWII outfits. The children, and staff, looked amazing – thank you!

This really helped the children to get into the spirit of the day. They learned 1940’s dancing, explored artefacts of the time, had the opportunity to watch a play set in WWII, enjoyed a lunch of sausage, mash and rice pudding and ended the day with a good old 1940 sing song.

Children in Need Friday 14th November

We will be hosting our annual Children in Need fund raising event. Children are invited to bring in any toys and/or books on Thursday 13th November (not before) for a ‘bring and buy’ sale in the hall on Friday afternoon. Children in Y5 and Y6 will be running their own enterprise games and stalls.

Children are invited to come to school in non-uniform – the theme, as in other years, is to wear spots for a donation of £1. Children can also bring money to spend at the toy stall or at the Y5/6 games and stalls in an envelope clearly labelled with your child’s name.  The games include, nail salon, name the teddy, guess how many sweets in a jar, higher/lower game, guess the footballer and many more.

This is always a wonderful afternoon in school with lots of fun and laughter and it is always wonderful to see the older children supporting the younger children. We look forward to sharing the photos of the day.

ROYAL BRITISH LEGION – Poppy Appeal

Thank you to those who have supported the Royal British Legion so far with buying poppies and the school British Legion merchandise.  We will let you know the total as soon as possible.

Today a group of children visited the Memorial Garden at Pollington to clean the plaques in preparation for the remembrance that will take place there on Sunday. The children did a super job and showed reverence and respect.

On Sunday a group of children will represent the school at Pollington War Memorial to lay poppies on behalf of our school.

We will be holding our own service of remembrance in school on Tuesday 11th November at 11 o’clock. We hope you enjoy the poppy display created by our wonderful children. The plane on our centrepiece display was drawn and painted by one of our very talented Y6.

Governor Elections

Thank you to everyone who voted in the recent parent Governor Elections. The voting, which was extremely close, elected Mrs Melanie Ryan and Mrs Sarah Gant.  We welcome Melanie for a second term and Sarah for her first term. We also thank Mrs Nicola Roberts who has served four years on our governing body for all of her support and are delighted that she will continue to offer her support to our school.

SPORT

Table Tennis

Well done to the 11 boys who took part in Tuesday Evening’s East Riding table tennis event at the Snaith School.

The children were spilt into 5 groups and each group played a round robin format to find a group winner.

Lots of awesome table tennis was on show as Snaith recorded victory after victory.

The trick shot table for children to take on in between matches was also a big hit. A great time was certainly had by all!  An extra well done goes to the 5 group winners who took home the medals.

PTA News

Scarecrow competition, wow, we have had lots of brilliant entries.  They are all proudly displayed in the entrance of school as part of our Autumn display. The judging has taken place today and the winners will be announced on Monday.

Bunday Monday has now ended for this year.  Thank you to everyone for supporting, we even managed to have many Bunday Tuesdays! We would also like to thank Provac for donating all the paper bags.

A whopping  £1759.81 was raised.

Further to the non-uniform day before half-term, thank you to everyone who donated a tombola/raffle prize for the Christmas PTA tombola and raffle.

Christmas Fayre.  The PTA will be holding a Christmas Fayre in school from 3.30pm on Thursday 20th November. Please see the poster below. There will be a number of stalls and crafts to peruse. It is a great opportunity to do a little Christmas Shopping. We look forward to seeing you there.

An Absence from School for Exceptional Circumstances Request Form, must be completed for all absences (not medical).  https://www.snaithprimary.org.uk/page/?title=Attendance+%26amp%3B+Punctuality&pid=77

Please can I remind parents that school is not able to authorise any holidays during term time. Therefore, it is important to consult these dates before making any booking.  Penalty Notice Fines are issued on a per parent per child basis for term time leave of 5 (10 sessions) or more consecutive days.

As school is in session during these times, if your child does not attend school due to an unauthorised absence, school will not provide work for this period of time as children are expected to attend school to undertake their learning.

Penalty Notice Fines are also considered, if a child has 10 sessions of unauthorised absence in 10 school weeks.

We are committed to improving achievement through attendance, and any pupil whose attendance falls below 97% becomes a cause for concern.  Attendance below 90% is classed by the Government as persistent absence. If a child’s attendance falls below 90% we refer all cases to the Education Welfare Office at East Riding Council, who is likely to contact parents directly to give support and discuss the matter.

(Parent, in relation to a child or young person, includes any person who is not a parent of the child but who has parental responsibility for the child, or who has care of them).
