This Weeks Attendance 97.4%
We would like to wish all of our families a Happy New Year.
Mrs O’Connor
This week we said a ‘cheerio’ to Mrs O’Connor as she begins her maternity leave. We wish her and her family well and look forward to sharing exciting news with you all in the near future. We welcome Mrs Train to our school, who will be teaching the class, Monday and Tuesday, Mrs Johnson will be teaching Wednesday to Friday.
School Uniform
We are always so proud of the way the children are turned out in their school uniform. Please can I remind all children and parents however, that footwear should be black shoes and black trainers for PE days. We appear to have a few brightly coloured trainers creeping into school and ask that these are not worn in school (unless it is a specific non-uniform day). Children are welcome to wear plain black jogging bottoms to school on PE days during these cold winter months.
All teachers have been advised to remind the children of our expectations. We thank you in advance for your support with this.
Road Safety
Next week, on Thursday 15th January we have the East Riding Road Safety Team in school giving the following training sessions.
Reception – Mini Pedestrian Skills, the session covers, walking safely near roads with a grown up, knowing how to behave when travelling in a vehicle, how wearing bright clothing in the daytime and reflective clothing at night will help keep them safe, the need to stop and wait before crossing and understanding where to do this.
Year 2 – Scooter Training, the session covers a road safety presentation and practical safe scooting skills, with their own scooters on the playground. On the morning of Thursday 15th January 2026, please bring your child’s scooter to their classroom door, where a member of staff will show you where to leave it. Please collect the scooter from the same place at 3:30pm. Children are NOT to ride on their scooter in the school grounds before or after school
Year 4 – Pedestrian Skills, Training is made up of an interactive lesson in a classroom for around 30 to 40 minutes, followed by practical training, where small groups of children are taken out (4 or 5 children to 1 instructor) to local roads and taught the safest way to cross on roads.
Please note Year 2 and Year 4 sessions, even if it’s raining, the, will still go ahead. Therefore, we recommend a warm, waterproof coat, hats and gloves and suitable footwear.
Tennis Reception to Year 3
On Thursday 22nd January a tennis coach will be giving lessons to all children from Reception to Year 3.
Year 5 and 6 Growing Up Talks
On Thursday 22nd January, the school Nurse will be giving Growing Talks to Year 5 and 6. Details of the presentation will be emailed to parents before the day.
Supporting Safety On Line. Communication from the Children’s Commissioner.
On Wednesday I received a letter from the Children’s Commissioner, recognising the difficulties faced by families in keeping children safe online as ‘real life’ can be deeply entwined with the digital world. Based on surveys and speaking to children who had been victims of online abuse, the letter highlighted the following;
‘Children were clear that they value firm, informed and protective boundaries when adults have concerns about the content they are accessing online.
As parents, carers, and educators, our job must begin and end with our children’s care and safety. It’s what they expect and what they want from you.
As one young person told me: “Don’t be afraid to be firm… If you are worried [that] your child is seeing harmful content and you don’t know what they’re watching and it’s affecting the behaviour, just take it that you know best – they don’t.” Dame Rachel de Souz Children’s Commissioner’
As a result of the study a new guide has been created and we have been asked to share this with you.

An Absence from School for Exceptional Circumstances Request Form, must be completed for all absences (not medical). https://www.snaithprimary.org.uk/page/?title=Attendance+%26amp%3B+Punctuality&pid=77
Please can I remind parents that school is not able to authorise any holidays during term time. Therefore, it is important to consult these dates before making any booking. Penalty Notice Fines are issued on a per parent per child basis for term time leave of 5 (10 sessions) or more consecutive days.
As school is in session during these times, if your child does not attend school due to an unauthorised absence, school will not provide work for this period of time as children are expected to attend school to undertake their learning.
Penalty Notice Fines are also considered, if a child has 10 sessions of unauthorised absence in 10 school weeks.
We are committed to improving achievement through attendance, and any pupil whose attendance falls below 97% becomes a cause for concern. Attendance below 90% is classed by the Government as persistent absence. If a child’s attendance falls below 90% we refer all cases to the Education Welfare Office at East Riding Council, who is likely to contact parents directly to give support and discuss the matter.
(Parent, in relation to a child or young person, includes any person who is not a parent of the child but who has parental responsibility for the child, or who has care of them).
