World Book Week

I want to say a big thank you to you all for your support. The children looked amazing today in their costumes for World Book Day celebrations (along with the staff) and it created such a buzz in school.

What a fantastic week in school we have had, cumulating today with our dressing up day and a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed assembly where every child received a small token chocolate (alternative provided for those who may have an allergy to the ingredients) and the search for Golden Tickets ensued. Eight lucky children then got to take part in a competition to win prizes while all children in school traded their chocolate wrapper for a hot chocolate or blackcurrant and apply juice. As you can imagine there was great excitement all round!

We came back together again this afternoon to share a selection of the amazing work children have been involved in this week.  We hope to post some of this on our HERO app to share with you.

Thank you for your support once again.

Book Donation

We would like to say a massive thank you to Veteran Vehicles Locks, who kindly donated so many new books to our school library. They are currently on display in the entrance and we know children will enjoy them now and for years to come. We are incredibly grateful.

School Class Group Photographs

Yesterday  your child brought home their School Free Pose Photograph/Class Group. On the proof you will find all the details on how to order these special keepsakes. For FREE delivery back to school, the deadline for ordering is Wednesday 18th March.
If your child was absent on photograph day but you would still like to order a Class Group photograph, please contact the school office. Our teachers have a larger group photograph available in their classrooms for you to view.
Additionally, a Year 6 Group photograph was also taken. This will be given to the children as part of their leaving gift at the end of the school year.  Thank you for your support!

Book Fair

From Wednesday 11th March until Friday 13th March, we will be holding a Book Fair in the school hall after school (3.30pm - 4pm).

We are always very grateful for every book purchased as the school receives commission on all books sold. We then use this to buy more books for school.

Before the half term holiday, children brought home a £1 voucher which can be used as part payment for a book at the fair. Prior to the Book Fair opening, children will be taken to look at the books in school time.

At the fair you are able to pay for the books by cash or by scanning a QR code and paying online. However, the 4G internet reception in school is poor, therefore we advise you to bring cash if possible.

Cyber Crime Police Workshop for parents of children  in Year 5 and 6   2.30pm Friday 20th March

On the afternoon of Friday 20th March, we are inviting the parents of all Y5/6 to join us in attending a workshop with the children, delivered by the Cyber Crime Police Team who will share up to date information about staying safe online.  This has received some very positive feedback from schools where it has been delivered and we have been lucky enough to secure it here at Snaith.

Family Help Community Practitioner – Drop in session

The Family Help Community Practitioner will be visiting school again on Friday 20th March 9-11am.  Lottie Brocklesby is our new Family Help School and Community Practitioner.  Last time she operated drop in sessions, this time to ensure privacy and also to ensure you are not waiting around we will operate a booking system for this.

Please contact the school office to book an appointment time (approx. 30-minute slots) if you would like to meet with her.

A Family Help Community Practitioner is a frontline professional who provides early intervention and support to children and families who may have some concerns, questions or queries about their child’s development, with the aim of preventing concerns escalating and focusing on strengths, child's voice, and positive parenting.

As part of her role, Lottie can offer advice and signpost families in the area to services which may be of support. Lottie is again looking forward to meeting our families.

Comic Relief and Jay Day – Friday 20th March

Every year we combine Comic Relief celebrations with Jay day, as we remember our former pupil. Jay loved life and having a laugh and a joke with his friends. The theme this year is ‘Take yourself funny for money’ and encourages everyone to find the lightheartedness in themselves.  Poignantly, just before Jay passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, he wrote in his school book of the importance of making the most of life and enjoying life as this was something precious. A message and legacy to us all.

This year for Comic Relief we are inviting children to share their favourite joke.  Children can share their joke with the class and the ones that receives the best response on the ‘laughometer’ will get to share in assembly with the whole school.

Children can come to school wearing blue (Jay’s favourite colour) or red for a £1 donation, this can be in cash on the day or by donating via our Comic Relief,  Just Giving page.  Please click on the link below.

Parents Evening

Thank you for your support and time with parents’ evenings this week. We are aware that the online parents’ evenings worked for some parents and not for others. Please be assured, we will be using a different provider in future.

SPORTS

This week we had pupils represent the school in athletics at South Hunsley school.  We have not got the results in yet, but well done to everyone who took part.

Art around the World

Children’s Arts & Craft session every Sunday at Balne Parish Room

This term we are taking a 'voyage' around the globe, visiting 5 different continents. This week we are taking a trip to Japan. The sessions introduce the children to some culture and geography and they get to try their hands at some local arts and craft.

Please see the poster attached to this email.

An Absence from School for Exceptional Circumstances Request Form, must be completed for all absences (not medical).  https://www.snaithprimary.org.uk/page/?title=Attendance+%26amp%3B+Punctuality&pid=77

Please can I remind parents that school is not able to authorise any holidays during term time. Therefore, it is important to consult these dates before making any booking.  Penalty Notice Fines are issued on a per parent per child basis for term time leave of 5 (10 sessions) or more consecutive days.

As school is in session during these times, if your child does not attend school due to an unauthorised absence, school will not provide work for this period of time as children are expected to attend school to undertake their learning.

Penalty Notice Fines are also considered, if a child has 10 sessions of unauthorised absence in 10 school weeks.

We are committed to improving achievement through attendance, and any pupil whose attendance falls below 97% becomes a cause for concern.  Attendance below 90% is classed by the Government as persistent absence. If a child’s attendance falls below 90% we refer all cases to the Education Welfare Office at East Riding Council, who is likely to contact parents directly to give support and discuss the matter.

(Parent, in relation to a child or young person, includes any person who is not a parent of the child but who has parental responsibility for the child, or who has care of them).
