A REMINDER SCHOOL CLOSES TODAY FOR THE FEBRUARY HALF TERM BREAK AND RE-OPENS TO CHILDREN ON MONDAY 23rd FEBRUARY
Baby News
We are delighted to share with you, Mrs O’Connor has had a baby boy. We know that you will join with us in wishing her and her family our congratulations and best wishes.
Come as Yourself Day
The children all looked wonderful today ‘as themselves’. Thank you to those who have donated £1.
If you happened to forget and would still like to contribute, you can now easily donate via Arbor. Your support is greatly appreciated! At school, we are diligently working behind the scenes to significantly develop our outdoor area and facilities. Our aim is to promote an environment that will enhance children’s wellness and wellbeing. All funds raised through these donations will go directly towards this project. Thank you for your continued support in creating a positive environment for our students!
Science
A huge thank you once again to the parents who kindly gave their time to come into school and work with the children, sharing their experiences of working in the science sector. Your enthusiasm and real-life insights have helped bring our science curriculum to life and have truly inspired the children. As we continue to strengthen science across school as part of our PSQM journey, your support makes a real difference — we are very grateful.
Trainers
Please can I remind you, on PE days children are to wear black trainers. On non PE days children should wear black shoes. Thank you to everyone who is supporting us to uphold our high standards of presentation. To view our uniform requirements please see our website https://www.snaithprimary.org.uk/page/?title=School+Uniform&pid=81
Parents Evening
Thank you for your patience this week with regard to the POGO booking system. The problems you experienced with invitation emails and our launch day issues were all due to the POGO platform.
POGO was a new platform we purchased for 12 months in September and it was a third of the cost of our previous system. Due to our budget constraints this is something we had to look at. However, this has proven not to be as efficient as our previous system, we will look elsewhere going forwards.

Termly Support Plans
For parents of children with Termly Support Plans, teachers will contact you directly to book an appointment to review learning, please do not book a parent evening slot.
Mid-year reports will be sent out prior to your appointments.
Attendance
On Tuesday of this week, we shared your child’s attendance with you via email.
We have also had a meeting with the Education Welfare Officer from East Riding council, who reviews school attendance.
I would like to bring the following to your attention, a point that was raised with us for your future reference.
If a child only attends part of a session prior to taking a term time holiday, this session will be marked as unauthorised, and therefore, if 10 unauthorised sessions are taken within a 10-week period, you could incur a penalty fine. While we have honored any such part sessions to date, in order to follow the Local Authority directive, please be aware that this protocol will be followed for all future term time holiday absences.
I would also like to remind you that school have to be satisfied about the authenticity of an absence, including illness in order to authorise this. We always value our relationships with you and encourage you to share any reasons for absence honestly and transparently.
Absence Request Forms – should be completed for ALL term time absences (not medical/illness).

Playtimes, the Great Outdoors and Well Being.
We are currently working hard to improve playtime and outdoor provision for children. Over the last couple of weeks, we have been helping children learn some new playground games that can be carried out safely and increase engagement for all, as well as providing quieter areas for colouring and drawing, areas for skipping and small ball game equipment for children to make up their own games. A huge thank you to the PTA for the purchase of the Frisbee Golf sets to enhance playtimes even further. It is our intention that overtime we will rotate some of the games and new equipment to ensure that there is something for everyone. (Drier days will also help with this!)
Thank you for your support with today’s non-uniform. All proceeds will also contribute to purchasing more outdoor resources.
We have a long-term plan to enhance outdoor learning and playtime in order to encourage children to interact with each other, develop their imaginations, increase their love of the outdoors and in turn their wellbeing.
World Book Week –
Our Theme for book week, Monday 2nd – Friday 6th March, will be Roald Dahl – Revolting Rhymes
During the week, children will be learning about the author Roald Dahl as well as the illustrator Quinten Blake, comparing the ‘revolting rhymes’ to the traditional stories and having the opportunity to create their own stories in the style of Dahl and art work in the style of Blake, along with a host of other activities and a special end of week treat!
Dress Up day Friday 6th March as a character from the world of Roald Dahl.
On Friday 6th March, we are inviting children (and staff) to dress up as a character from the stories of Roald Dahl. This does not need to be a bought costume as there are many characters that ‘own clothes’ and/or a homemade mask can work well for, as well as being eco-friendly. Please see the bottom of the letter for a few ideas.
Competition Time!!! Create your own Roald Dahl inspired character.
This year we are inviting all children to create their own Roald Dahl inspired character.
Design/draw your character in the style of Quentin Blake. Describe your character or create a short story about the character. (Things to think about: what the character looks like, how they dress, walk, talk, behave etc. to reveal their personality.)
The competition will be judged by Mrs. Calpin. There will be a small acknowledgment for everyone who enters and prizes per each year group. Please remember to put your name on your entry, year group and class. Entries need to be in by Friday 6th March.
The Scholastic Book Fayre will be in school from Wednesday 11th March.
World Book Day Tokens
Yesterday we sent home a £1 World Book Day token. These can be used against any book at the school Book Fair or a FREE £1 book can be purchased from a nominated retailer https://www.worldbookday.com/books-and-tokens/participating-retailers/ from 12th February – 15th March.

An Absence from School for Exceptional Circumstances Request Form, must be completed for all absences (not medical). https://www.snaithprimary.org.uk/page/?title=Attendance+%26amp%3B+Punctuality&pid=77
Please can I remind parents that school is not able to authorise any holidays during term time. Therefore, it is important to consult these dates before making any booking. Penalty Notice Fines are issued on a per parent per child basis for term time leave of 5 (10 sessions) or more consecutive days.
As school is in session during these times, if your child does not attend school due to an unauthorised absence, school will not provide work for this period of time as children are expected to attend school to undertake their learning.
Penalty Notice Fines are also considered, if a child has 10 sessions of unauthorised absence in 10 school weeks.
We are committed to improving achievement through attendance, and any pupil whose attendance falls below 97% becomes a cause for concern. Attendance below 90% is classed by the Government as persistent absence. If a child’s attendance falls below 90% we refer all cases to the Education Welfare Office at East Riding Council, who is likely to contact parents directly to give support and discuss the matter.
(Parent, in relation to a child or young person, includes any person who is not a parent of the child but who has parental responsibility for the child, or who has care of them).
