Newsletter Friday 15th May 2026

ON FRIDAY 22ND MAY, SCHOOL CLOSES FOR THE HALF TERM BREAK.

SCHOOL RE-OPENS TO CHILDREN ON MONDAY 1ST JUNE.

This weeks attendance 97%

Year 6 SATs

I cannot begin to tell you how incredibly proud we are of all the Year 6 children who took their SATs this week. They approached their SATs with maturity, enthusiasm and composure.  It has been a privilege to spend this time with them and regardless of the results they can all be proud of themselves knowing they did their very best. A fun and restful weekend is deserved by all (including their teachers and everyone who has supported them and Mrs Butterill for the bacon butties/vegetarian alternatives).

Handwashing

On Friday 22nd May, the school nurse will be in school to demonstrate to the Reception Class and Years 1 & 2 the importance of handwashing.  Please speak to your child’s class teacher if your child has an allergy/sensitive hands. An email will be sent on Monday reminding you of the ingredients of the ultraviolet indicator lotion.

RAF Memorial Garden

Today some children attend the RAF war memorial at Pollington and took part in paying their respects, laying poppies as part of the 110th anniversary of 51 squadron who was based at Pollington for 3 years during the war.  The children learned of the history of the base and its significance to 51 squadron and the war effort, from a speech given by the Commander of RAF Waddingon.  They also heard from a relative of a veteran  who flew from the base.   I was so proud of  how the children conducted themselves, which earned a discussion with the commander who promised to visit our school in the near future.

Half Term Activity Pack

We’re delighted to share the Trans-Pennine Activity Pack with you.

Their brand‑new Kids’ May Half Term Activity Pack, filled with fun nature‑themed activities including an i-Spy challenge, planting seeds, a recipe and a puzzle for families to enjoy during the holiday. It’s a great way to inspire children to get creative, explore the outdoors, and learn more about the outdoors and the Trans Pennine Trail.

With colourful characters leading the way, this activity pack inspires kids to discover spring wildlife, get creative, and enjoy the magic of the outdoors. There are opportunities to share their adventures and to earn a digital certificate.

The packs are ideal for Key Stage 1 and 2, but there’s something for everyone.  They’re perfect for use on the Trail, in your local park, or even indoors on a rainy day. Every pack is designed to help everyone learn, play, and make memories while exploring the outdoors.

The activity pack can be used ‘on the go’ by downloading it to a mobile or can be printed at home.

Download it from our Children’s page at: Welcome to our Children’s Page | Trans Pennine Trail

An Absence from School for Exceptional Circumstances Request Form, must be completed for all absences (not medical).  https://www.snaithprimary.org.uk/page/?title=Attendance+%26amp%3B+Punctuality&pid=77

Please can I remind parents that school is not able to authorise any holidays during term time. Therefore, it is important to consult these dates before making any booking.  Penalty Notice Fines are issued on a per parent per child basis for term time leave of 5 (10 sessions) or more consecutive days.

As school is in session during these times, if your child does not attend school due to an unauthorised absence, school will not provide work for this period of time as children are expected to attend school to undertake their learning.

Penalty Notice Fines are also considered, if a child has 10 sessions of unauthorised absence in 10 school weeks. If a child is collected mid-session for a term-time holiday, the whole session will be unauthorised.

We are committed to improving achievement through attendance, and any pupil whose attendance falls below 97% becomes a cause for concern.  Attendance below 90% is classed by the Government as persistent absence. If a child’s attendance falls below 90% we refer all cases to the Education Welfare Office at East Riding Council, who is likely to contact parents directly to give support and discuss the matter.

(Parent, in relation to a child or young person, includes any person who is not a parent of the child but who has parental responsibility for the child, or who has care of them).
