Weekly Attendance 95.8%

Engineers Club

It was fantastic this week to have our Y5 and Y2 mini engineers receive a visit from a representative of Siemens Engineering.  Y2 took home their models and Y5 are refining theirs in preparation for the interschools competition in just over a week’s time. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the children who took part and in particular the Y5’s who also gave up their evenings to support the Y2’s. They were so mature and supportive as well as fast becoming skilled engineers!

First Aid

Mrs Cromack has again been supporting Y3 children in learning vital first aid skills. Lessons that one day might save a life. We are so grateful for her continued support.

Bikes and Scooters – School and Park

Please could I remind everyone that we have purchased more racks and ask that if children are bringing bikes or scooters to school they park them carefully in the racks provided. For scooters, two can fit facing each other, one at either side of the rack. In the interests of safety, we ask that children do not ride bikes or scooters through the school grounds.

Similarly, we are aware that there are many children now visiting and enjoying the park in this lovely weather. However, to avoid accidents, please remind children not to ride their bikes or scooters around the play equipment and ask that children are supervised carefully. (It is lovely to see so many using this space, but it can mean it becomes easily congested.)

Online safety

As you are aware, we have a policy in school that requires parents to consent to their child being shown on any social media platform. For those who do not consent, this is something we adhere to with rigor.

There are many reasons, including, and especially, those of safeguarding, that mean individuals should not appear on social media sites: Doing so is likely to leave them extremely vulnerable and may pose a risk to their safety. All photo’s and images posted on social media should lawfully only be with the consent of the person it relates to and in the case of children, their parents and legal guardians.

Therefore, we expressly forbid the posting of pictures of children, other than those of your own children, on social media and I am grateful for your support with this.

Going forwards, the governors and I will be implementing a parent online and social media policy and contract, which is currently in draft form. The finalised version will be sent out in September.

We also hope to host some workshops in the new school year to help parents to understand the increasing dangers posed to children via the online world and steps you can take to keep everyone safe. Please do make use of the monthly online newsletters that we subscribe to, to keep you up to date. (link below)

I cannot reiterate enough how important online safety is. In addition to the above, new Artificial Intelligence is leading criminal gangs to significantly utilize and exploit what may on the face of it appear an innocent picture.

Children’s safety, is the responsibility of us all. Please, help us to keep your child and everyone’s children as safe as we can.

New Classes

I am aware that many of you will be wondering about the class organisation next year and I hope to update you on this next week, a head of the issuing of reports during the penultimate week of term.

Dance Competition

Well done to all the children who took part in the cluster dance festival on Tuesday afternoon at The Snaith School. A great time was certainly had by all!  We had several winners - a first place for routine, a first place for creativity and a first place for best costume.  Congratulations to everyone.

Rounders

We won!

Congratulations to our year 5/6 rounders team who won the East Riding finals at Cottingham High School this week!

The team played brilliantly throughout and won all 6 of their matches! Their positive batting and faultless fielding drove them to victory!

Well done to everyone, you were a fantastic team!

An Absence from School for Exceptional Circumstances Request Form, must be completed for all absences (not medical).  https://www.snaithprimary.org.uk/page/?title=Attendance+%26amp%3B+Punctuality&pid=77

Please can I remind parents that school is not able to authorise any holidays during term time. Therefore, it is important to consult these dates before making any booking.  Penalty Notice Fines are issued on a per parent per child basis for term time leave of 5 (10 sessions) or more consecutive days.

As school is in session during these times, if your child does not attend school due to an unauthorised absence, school will not provide work for this period of time as children are expected to attend school to undertake their learning.

Penalty Notice Fines are also considered, if a child has 10 sessions of unauthorised absence in 10 school weeks.

We are committed to improving achievement through attendance, and any pupil whose attendance falls below 97% becomes a cause for concern.  Attendance below 90% is classed by the Government as persistent absence. If a child’s attendance falls below 90% we refer all cases to the Education Welfare Office at East Riding Council, who is likely to contact parents directly to give support and discuss the matter.

(Parent, in relation to a child or young person, includes any person who is not a parent of the child but who has parental responsibility for the child, or who has care of them).
