Easter Holidays

I would like to wish you all a wonderful Easter Break. School re-opens to children on Monday 8th April.

This Week

KS1 – Willow Sculpture

This week we have been delighted to welcome local willow sculpture artist (and also a great friend to our school) Mrs Bristow, who has been working with children in Year1 and Year 2 to create a fabulous deer to be sited in the ‘natural garden’ that we are working to create at the back of the new extension. Thank you to Mrs Bristow for her support and to the PTA for helping fund this. Mrs Bristow has been very impressed with all the children’s work and, I guarantee, you will not be disappointed with what the children have achieved!

Maths Challenge

Two teams of Year 5 children visited The Snaith School on Tuesday to take part in Maths challenge. They were great ambassadors for our school and Maths! Their super skills shone out with one team coming joint first and the other team second! Well done to all who took part.

Governors Writing Review

This week we welcomed a team of Governors to school to review the work we are doing on writing. The Governors had a lovely morning watching some lessons, looking at books and talking to children as well as staff.  They were very impressed with all that the children are achieving and their attitudes to learning. They will let you know more about their visit in their next Governor newsletter.

Energy Sparks

This week we were delighted to welcome Energy Sparks to school to present in assembly and then work with the school council. Going forwards, we will be setting up an Eco Team, and in competition with other schools, will seek to find initiatives that reduce our carbon footprint and promote renewable/reusable strategies. Please look out for more information on this and how you can help.

Climate Change Workshop

Today Year 5/6 have taken part in a Climate Change Workshop.  Lots of global issues were taught through discussion and drama.  The children have had a super time whilst also growing their knowledge on the hot topic.

School Photographs

This week your child brought home a proof of their school photograph. If you wish to order a photo, please follow the instructions on the proof using your unique link or visit www.tempest-orders.co.uk

The closing date for free delivery back to school is  Monday 1st April 2024

If you need any assistance in ordering your photos, feel free to contact Tempest on 01736 751555 (option 3).

Bingo

Last night the PTA organised a fabulous family Bingo evening, this was enjoyed by everyone.  Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this event, helping to raise over £400, and many thanks to the PTA for their organisation and dedication, you truly do an amazing job.  All funds raised by the PTA go to buying extra resources for the school.  Thank you

Sport

Dodgeball

This week the year 3 / 4 Dodgeball team represented themselves, our school and the cluster fantastically well at the Dodgeball tournament. The team performed brilliantly throughout, with the opposition just taking the win in the final moments. Most importantly, the team showed outstanding sportsmanship and were a  great role model to others. Well done team Y3/4.

Also taking part in a Dodgeball friendly tournament this week were 4 Year 5/6 teams. All four teams were awesome. Congratulations to Snaith A who won their group to make the final. After a tense battle Snaith took first place, while the B team narrowly missed out on a place in the final despite remaining undefeated at the group stage. Everyone can feel very proud of themselves and all they achieved.

Cross Country

A number of children took part in the Cross Country at Brantingham Park this week. A massive thank you to parents for transporting, attending and supporting this. At the time of this letter, we are still eagerly waiting for the final results to be sent to us but everyone should be very proud of their performance. Thank you once again for being great ambassadors for our school.

Keeping School Safe

Please could I remind everyone that if someone else is collecting your child on your behalf from the school site, it is important that you let school know via telephone or email. Thank you.

Please can I remind parents that school is not able to authorise any holidays during term time. Therefore, it is important to consult these dates before making any booking.

We are committed to improving achievement through attendance, and any pupil whose attendance falls below 96% becomes a cause for concern.  Attendance below 90% is classed by the Government as persistent absence.

If a child’s attendance falls below 90% we refer all cases to the Education Welfare Office at East Riding, who is likely to contact parents directly to discuss the matter.
