Phonics 

In phonics we will review the speed sounds and red words we already know:

m, a, s, d, t, I, n, p, g, o, c, k

‘I’ and 'to'

And learn the new sounds: u, b, f, e. Please focus on one sounds per day.

Topic Work

This week we are looking at the book ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’. If you do not have a copy of this story at home, here is a video link to it on YouTube.

Activity 1:

With an adult, talk about what happened in the story 'Oliver's Vegetables'. Can you retell the story? Who are the characters? What happens at the end?

With an adult, see if you can recall which fruit and vegetables Oliver finds in his Grandads vegetable patch. Can you draw a picture of each of them? See if you can hear the initial sound of each vegetable and have a go at writing that sound.  Can you hear anymore sounds within each of the words?

 

Activity 2:

This week we are going to find out what the most popular fruit is. Firstly we would like you to think of 5 different fruits and ask a grown up to help you present it into a grid (there is a template below if you would like to use this one instead of creating your own? It already has some fruit listed on it. 

Can you ask your family members what is their favourite fruit out of the 5 you have chosen? You might what to telephone or video call family members to see which they prefer too.

 

Activity 3:

Please share the presentation that is attached below and talk about the questions.  

Practice forming the number three using the worksheet attached below.  If you don’t have access to a printer write some in a yellow pen and ask your child write over top, prompting them to start at the top of the letter. Then have a go writing it on your own.

Can you think about the different ways three can be represented? Using your hands, think of different ways to show three.

Please complete the sorting activity attached below. You need to sort each of the picture cards into a table of one, two or three.

 

Activity 4:

Watch the following video 'Catie's Amazing Machines' to learn all about different farm machines used. Our focus this week is combine harvesters.

Can you design and create your very own combine harvester?

Draw your design onto a piece of paper first.  With  help from a grown up, see if you can label the different parts using the information shared on the clip above. Think carefully about what you may use for each part of your creation.

Now onto the creating! You may want to use different forms of construction kits, junk modelling or play dough to create your masterpiece.

 

Activity 5:

Last week at school we made pumpkin soup. This week we would like you to think about what vegetables you would like to include in your own soup if you were to make one. Think about the different types of vegetables Oliver found in the vegetable patch. 

Why not try and create your own soup at home? What ingredients do you think you’d like to include?

See if you can come up with your own soup recipe to share with your family. If you have the ingredients available, why not give it a try at home?

 

Activity 6:

Oliver found some snails and slugs in his Grandad's vegetable patch. Can you create your own snail and design a vibrant shell that uses a repeating pattern of two colours? Pick two of your favourite colours and see what you can come up with. There is a template attached or you may wish to draw your own.
